Atletico shocks Yanga, APR FC thump South Sudan side

Defending champions Yanga FC got off to a poor start in CECAFA club championship after losing to Burundi’s champions Atletico FC 2-0 in a game played at the National stadium in Dar es Salam. Both sides played to a goal less draw in the first half but the Burundi side had different ideas in the last ten minutes of the second half. The day’s hero was Didier Kavumbagu who scored a brace. The forward struck in the 81st and in the last minute of the additional time to collect maximum points. Ugandan international striker Diego Hamis Kiiza was part of the Yanga team.

In the other game played in this group, Rwanda’s APR FC thumped debuntants Wau Salam of South Sudan 7-0. Leonel St. Preus and Selemen Ndikumana both bagged a brace while veteran striker Olivier Karekezi, Barnabe Mubumbyi and Jean Baptist Muginereza added one a piece. The Rwanda side dominated proceedings from start to finish. Dan Wagaluka had a brilliant performance for APR FC which tops the group with 3 points and 7 goals while Atletico FC are second on difference.
