Uganda will send out a 16-man team to this year’s London Olympic games due July 27-August 12. And the task will be securing podium finshes and returning home with either gold, silver or bronze. But that will come at the cost of tough climatic conditions, according to Daily Monitor’s Yasiin Mugerwa in London. While many have been acclamatised with humid weather in the past editions, these could turn out to be the most wet Olympic games.
The XXX Olympiad local organising committee might be forced to reschedule some events, something that likely to affect the sale of tickets and refunding in some instances. Athletics will take place at the Stratford Olympic Park, an 80000 seater stadium that was built by a fifth of the London locals.
Most athletes shifted to Iten in Eastern Kenya but recent blogs indicate the weather is similar to that in London. “It is cold here in Iten, i need a jacket” Benjamin Kiplagat posted on his facebook wall. It is 16 years since a Ugandan last stood at the quadrannieal games’ poduim and the spell could get longer if the Ugandan athletes fail to cope with the UK weather.
