Ugandan medal prospect Moses Kipsiro will wait a little longer if he is to fetch his country a medal at this year’s London Olympic Games. The 2010 Commonwealth Games double gold medalist finished tenth in 27:39.22, a race that left East Africa awed. Kipsiro’s country mate Thomas Ayeko settled for 16th position (27:58.26).
Mo Farah
From the gun, Ethiopian brothers Kenenisa and Tariku Bekele led the 28-man pack and kept the lead. But as they approached the last three laps, Great Britain’s Farah took the charge and clocked 27:30.42 enroute winning gold. His feat earned the hosts their sixth gold on the night, leaving the 80000 crowd at the Olympic Stadium in wild jubilations. Heptathlon athlete Jessica Ennis had just won gold. “I am very happy on winning this at home” the 28 year old told the BBC.
Farah went to the UK at eight, when they were refugees. He had a dream he would play for Arsenal and though he did not make it to the soccer ranks, Farah still wears spikes with colours of the Gunners. His training partner G.Rupp of USA took silver while Tariku settled for bronze.
