3000m steeplechase runner Dorcus Inzikuru will tonight be in action for the first time since her poor finish at the just concluded London Olympic Games. The former Commonwealth gold medalist will line up alongside 12 other athletes in the Samsung Diamond League Meet water jump race in Zurich, Switzerland.
Although reigning Olympic champion Russian Yuliya Zaripova is out, Inzikuru, a gold winner at the Helsinki World Athletics Championships, will face off with Tunisian Habiba Ghribi and Ethiopian Sofia Assefa who took silver and bronze in turn.
The Arua Gazelle finished seventh in a time of 8:35.29 in heat three of the water jump race, a heat that was won by Assefa’s countrymate Hiwot Ayalew in a time of 9:24.01.
Ayalew, who is also in the fray, is ranked fifth with two points in this year’s Diamond League standings.
But most fondly, all eyes will be on Kenya Milcah Chemos. She may have missed the medal bracket in London but she tops the rankings with 12 points so far. Chemos’ time of 9:07.14 is her personal and season best and the race has three other Kenyans.
