Fly half Helen Buteme was named new captain of the Lady Cranes side on Monday evening ahead of their trip to Morocco for the sevens’ world cup.
“A tough task but we will work as ateam,” Buteme, who captained Uganda during the fifth edition of the 7s’ rugby world cup in Dubai three years ago told Kawowo Sports.
Brenda Kayiyi will deputise Buteme as the selected 15
-player team as they prepare to face Cameroon, Zimbabwe and Senegal in pool D from September 29-30.
Meanwhile, the Uganda Rugby Union received Shs6 million from members of the expatriate community at the Royal Ascot goat races ahead of the trip to North Africa.
The side will have their last training session on Monday and leave for Rabat on Wednesday aboard Qatar Airways.
