KIU Rangers Vs KCCA Leopards, 7:00pm
Falcons Vs DMark Power, 8:30pm
On the regular season schedule, all interesting games that are yet to be played involve league leaders, Falcons. One of those match-ups is today’s 8:30pm tip-off against defending champions, Dmark Power.
The two teams face off in what could be a play-off
second round match up if the teams finish the regular season in second and third places. Falcons (18-2) beat Power (15-5) 78-66 back in June on route to their now 13 games winning streak.
Falcons beat Warriors 69-58 in the last game off big performances from Steven Omony and Geoffrey Omondi who will without doubt have a lot of say on today’s game while Power blew out Rez Life 80-53 in their last game.
No team in the league has players that have shared offensive responsibility much as Falcons have done. The former champions have got a plethora of scorers on both the front and back court and sharing of the scoring responsibility among the high-octane group has made it difficult for opponents to win games by picking up on a stand out player to stop them. At least three Falcons have scored in double figures in every game.
Unlike Falcons, Power has players that they look up to and when they are not playing well the team struggle to score. If Ben Komakech and Isaac Afidra are not playing well the team struggles much as Richard Balemwa always shows up and will be an important player offensively off the bench if he gets a lot of open corner 3-point field goals attempts.
With Joseph Ikong and Isaac Luggudde also not playing like the true self, Power may struggle offensively. Power is probably the best offensive team down the stretch in the final periods but were beaten to it by KIU a couple of weeks back as well as in the second round match up with Warriors and the first leg against Falcons, so late spurts are not something to rely on against fellow giants.
After making his first appearance for Falcons this season, guard, Abdulahi Ramanthan may have more minutes in today’s game. Falcons could go with Geoffrey Omondi, Julius Lutwama, Peter Elungat, Steven Omony and Philp Ameny as the starters while Power could start with Ben Komakech, Jimmy Enabu, Joseph Ikong, Isaac Afidra and David Kiberu.
In the women’s division, KIU Rangers play KCCA Leopards. KCCA saw off KIU 54-42 in the first round. Leopards (16-2) have not lost a game since losing to Stormers before the Zone 5 while Rangers (13-6) have won the last two including a big one against A1 Challenge which could buoy them up for another big performance this evening.
