Pool Association of Uganda (PAU) top seed Sula Matovu silenced critics as he staged a performance that helped him retain this year’s Kampala Open title at Planet Sports Bar, Naalya on Saturday.
He beat Kenyan Henry Mwanji 5-3 in the best of nine final emerging best of the 128 competitors. “I thank God for this victory,” the delighted player said.
It was a quite a relief for him after having failed to retain the Easter Cup and could not go past the first round in
this year’s National Pool Open. Matovu had whitewashed Jeff Miiro 4-0 while Mwanji had edged Kalema Vicent 4-2 in the best of seven semi-finals.
In the women’s category, Carol Kanzira edged out Shakira Nabukenya 4-3 to win the women’s best of seven final. Earlier on Friday evening, Kenya Sharks beat Uganda’s pool Cranes 2-1 in a friendly held at Alleygators, Garden City.
