SATURDAY RESULTS – POOL

It was never going to be easy for the Lady Cranes to make a comeback to the global stage at the sixth edition of the IRB women’s 7’s world cup in Moscow, Russia next year.

There was only going to be one out of the eight teams in Rabat, Morocco to join South Africa and from the word go, it seemed to be a tall-order for coach Anthony Kinene’s side.

Helen Buteme and company fell to Tunisia in the semifinal on Sunday, losing 17-5 in a repeat of a 2008 semifinal at Kyadondo grounds during the same qualifiers to the 2009 Dubai World Cup. Prossy Nakakande, one of six survivors from the team that made the trip to the Middle East three years ago, got the only try.

And that was the end of the road for Uganda. Tunisia went ahead and secured the slot for the second African representative after beating neighbours Kenya 14-0 in the final.

The start was superb on Saturday, defeating Zimbabwe 14-5 and West Africans Senegal 20-0 enroute topping Pool D.  Uganda can now adequately prepare for the 2016 qualifiers ahead of the seventh World Cup in NewZealand 2017.
