If there is anyone who deserves credit for making Uganda proud sports wise as she celebrates her golden jubilee, then very few can look beyond Ronald Mugula. The 27 year old was on Saturday morning crowned world champion and the first Ugandan kick boxer to achieve the feat, after Moses Golola tried last year.
Now a newly crowned world kickboxing champion, Mugula wants to defend his world title and European titles locally but prefers to first deal with Szamboki Matte. Szamboki early this year defeated Moses Golola to claim a world title in kampala. “Let him come I won’t rest until I discipline all of them who embarrassed us here,” an ecstatic Mugula said.
“Szamboki won’t even take me one round I will finish him off.” he added. Talking about his Saturday opponent Mugula expressed disappointment in the way Nagy approached the fight. “I thought Nagy was tough and I gave him the respect he deserves but I realized he is nothing and I decided to go bring him down as soon as possible,” he said.
A severe cut on his left eye Nagy needed three stitches to stop the bleeding as an ambulance was called in to rush him to hospital. It was the Hungarian’s second visit to Uganda as he demoted himself four division (Super middleweight to super welterweight) to challenge Mugula.
It was evident as the intercontinental champion in the Muay thai style struggled to adapt to the low kick approach and in the end, it turned out to be a bad ending. The fight was the second world title bout to be held in Uganda after the Golola-Szamboki encounter at the same venue.
