After losing to his club-mate and training partner thrice, enough was enough for seed two Ian Rukunya Kajubu as he overcame his jinx over defending champion Michael Kawooya on Saturday evening to claim the prestigious Castle Lite Squash Open championship at Kampala club.

Rukunya had to dig deep for his maiden winner over Kawooya beating him 9-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-8 in a captivating final. “I saw it coming and I would like to thank my father for pushing me to the limits for me to achieve that,” Rukunya said. “I believe this win can motivate me to dominate the game.”

Edith Wamalwa was on song as she claimed her second crown with a 3-0 win over Agnes Nabaloga wit scores of 11-9,11-5,11-8. Former  Uganda Squash Rackets Association chairman Adam Clark beat Martin Fowler 11 -5,11-7,11-9 to claim the 50 plus crown while former top national top seed Christopher Musaazi had a walk over William Byaruhanga in the 35-40 class.

Nile Breweries under their popular brand Castle Lite have sunk 16 million into the event that has attracted over 80 players for the tournament. The tournament has main draw and a 35-39 category together with a 50 plus for men.
