Runners taking part in this year’s MTN Kampala marathon will have to be able too swim at the same time as sponsors Rwenzori Water donated 72,000 litres of water for the participants take part in this weekend’s event.
The leading beverage company presented its 43 million sponsorship to local organisers Uganda Athletics Federation and event sponsors MTN at their Namanve plant this morning to receive the package was MTN’s corporate affairs manager Justina Ntabgoba Kayemba and the federation’s vice president Lawrence Kavuma.The total number of cartons given to MTN was 6,250 cartons of water for the athletes who will be taking part in this year’s edition whose theme this year is “Run with your Heart” the proceeds of the event will go towards the provision to provide Water and Safe Sanitation to the people of Bududa district.
Last year’s proceeds went to the District of Amuria which recently had them commission water and safe sanitation. Huawei Technologies, a leading information and communications technology(ICT) solutions provider,started the fundraising campaign with a sh168m cheque implementation of this project will be in partnership with Red Cross through which MTN has previously channeled such funds for projects in Northern and Eastern Uganda.
