Uganda’s top squash player Michael Kawooya won the Saint Petersburg Squash Cup in Russia last week to become the first African in his group to attain this feat Kawooya took the tournament by storm beating all the eight opponents in his group and his winning streak started with a lopsided win over Russia’s Andrey Konakh beating him 11-4,11-3 and 11-2. Dmitry Kulikov then fell in the Ugandan player’s trap falling 11-4,11-1 and 11-4. Egyptian Ihab Atalla failed to halt his African opponent losing to him 11-1,11-2,11-0 in impressive fashion. Kawooya is using the tournament as a build up too the 2014 Commonwealth games in Glasgow,Scotland this is the second international tournament that he is taking part in the year having taken part in the Prince Grand Prix in Johannesburg,South Africa in September He also beat Russia’s Nikolay Reshitsky 11-3,11-3 and 11-3 others to fall too him include the Russian duo of Sergey Kostrykin 11-3,11-3 and 13-11 and Georgy Manukhin 11-3,11-4 and 11-5. Kawooya is not going to have time to rest as next week they will travel to Kenya for the Kenya Open including Ian Kajubu,Brian Okumu,Paul Kadoma and Lawrence Matovu.
