Uganda’s contingent might have not scooped all the necessary silverware at the KenGen Parklands Open Squash tournament,but was choosen the best side at the week long event that ended in Nairobi, Kenya last week.
Uganda’s two top players Michael Kawooya,Ian Kajubu Rukunya reached the semi-finals of the tournament while Lawrence Matovu won the subsidiaries Plate event, the country’s other participants included Paul Kadoma,who was stopped in the quarter-finals while Brian Okumu, pulled out of the tournament after the first round after losing his father.
Kenya Squash Rackets Association, the local organisers of the event chose the Ugandan side the best side for the good competition that they showed during the tournament.
It was the second time that Uganda was taking part in a tournament in Kenya having previously taken part in similar tournament in Nakuru before this one. Uganda Squash Rackets Association chairman John Bosco Tamwesigire hailed the team’s performance at the event and added that their was more to come from Ugandan players in the coming season.
