The 8th edition of the biannual East African University games which will start from 8th to 12th February 2013 and staged at University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, will be graced by the incumbent Tanzania president, Jakaya Kikwete, announced by the Chairman of the organizing Committee, Yunus Mgaya over the weekend.
Yunus Mgaya, who also doubles as the University of Dar er salaam deputy vice-chancellor (Administration), made the announcement over the weekend that the president will witness the opening ceremony of the games. “I’m proud to announce today (over the weekend) that the University of Dar es Salaam under the auspice of Tanzania Universities Sports Associations (TUSA) will host the 8th edition of the EA University Game”. Mgaya said.
He articulated that , the games held in rotation basis brings together students from different universities in the region(East Africa), in which they compete in different sports discipline which include netball, football, volleyball, race, swimming, chess, hockey, rugby, handball, taekwondo, Karate, woodball among other indoors and outdoors games. Uganda’s Ndejje University came first out of 45 Universities that competed in the 7th Edition held at Kenyatta University in 2010 in Nairobi. Over 7 Universities represented Uganda in that year’s Edition.
