Athletes in Action to help Uganda Ladies Golf Union

A Christian non governmental organisation Athletes in Action has expressed willingness to promote junior golfers and professionals in Uganda in the future according to its officials Eric Salazar and Eric Nelson. The Athletes in Action sent out a team of golfers professionals Salazar, Tracy Hanson, who has been playing on the Ladies Professional Golf Association circuit for 16 years together with Brett McGaughey others included Nelson,Katie Campbell and April Nelson to work with junior golfers taking part in the Uganda Ladies Golf Union junior golf clinic together with a few professionals last week. “We want to make this programm sustainable and hope to bring trainers,golfers and coaches to work with golfers here in the country,” Salazar said. “We want to bring our community through this program and help with teaching philosphy.” Athletes in Action works with various sports associations in several parts of the world by sending coaches,athletes or students to teach or coach players at various levels this year they sent a coach to help Uganda’s national men’s and women’s basketball teams that are playing in the Africa Zone IV basketball championship going on in Dar es Salaam. Hanson was impressed with the work that the ULGU was doing off introducing boys and girls to the sport of golf. “I am impressed with the work that the ULGU is doing to introduce young girls and boys to the sport of golf which is not a popular sport and is also very expensive,” she said. “It’s great for the youngsters as they get to get the feel of the sport,but at the same time in creates way to develop players for the next generation.” Athletes in Action in donated a few golfing items to the ULGU, which they will use in the next kids golf clinic. “We need a plan with athletes in Africa and see how they can help us during our clinics,” Jasper Kamukama, the ULGU president said. “We shall work on a plan too see if they can send a team of coaches who can attend our clinics here in Kampala or West Uganda, Jinja or the North.
