Undefeated lightweight champion Sharif “The Lion” Bogere will set the ball on fire when he takes on Cuban Richard Abril in a WBA world lightweight title fight at the Apollo Theater on March 2 in New York state.
The Apollo theater is famous for being used as a music center, but early next month will pave way for glorious boxers in various boxing weight divisions who will be vying for world titles on the Golden Boy promotions boxing show.
Showtime will televise the fight between Richard Abril(17-3-1) and Sharif Bogere(23-0)including the support fights. The vacant WBA world lightweight title will be up for grabs.
“New York City is the perfect location for this event and we can’t wait to have our first show at the historic Apollo Theater,” Oscar De La Hoya president of Golden Boy promotions told ESPNNewYork.
Bogere’s eyes will be vying to become the sixth Ugandan boxer to land a world title like Ayub Kalule,Cornelius Boza Edwards,John “The Beast” Mugabi,Kassim “The Dream” Ouma and Jackson “Action” Asiku.
