Sam Muwonge retained the Uganda Cycling Association presidency after being voted back into office unopposed for his second term of four years in office.

The elections, that were marred by protests from several club representatives took place at the National Council of sports Headquarters in Lugogo, Kampala on Sunday.

A few members complained bitterly about the constitution not being adhered to. David Matovu, Frank Buyondo (Both of Tropical Heat Club), Sebayiga Ismail, Douglous Ssemakula (Battour Club) and Ishaka Bukenya (Kyanja Club) almost caused an abandonment of the polls as they called for an ‘independent electoral commission’ to org-anise the elections. They hurled insults to officials from the National Council of Sports who were over seeing the entire election process.

They also called foe translation of the Association’s constitution into the local luganda language reasoning majority of members in the general Assembly could not understand English.

John Richard Seninde was also voted as Vice President unopposed. Fred Maise of Uganda Mountain Bike Club beat Kampala Club’s Yusufu Mbazira to the post of General Secretary.

Others elected unopposed were: Isa Kanda Lutaaya (publicity secretary), Ssali Adam Kalopa (Competition Secretary), Albert B. Mukundane (Welfare) and Hajji Nsubuga Husseui (Treasurer).

In his victory speech, the president elect, Muwonge, tasked the cycling fraternity to work as a unit in the development of the sport in the country. ” I will make sure, we are united but still each person here has a personal responsibility to help see cycling in Uganda to another level”, Muwonge, who replaced Haji Bruhan Sekibenga as President on February 10th 2009 said.
