With just a day and a few games to play at the 8th edition of the East Africa university games in Dar-es-salaam Tanzania, the battle for the overall crown remains a reserve for Uganda teams with Ndejje University, Kampala University and Kampala international university in with a shout ahead of closing day tomorrow.

In action from the penultimate day where the ball games took center stage,Ndejje university student Stephen Komakech won the lawn tennis men’s gold, while Makerere won gold in chess with Kyambogo university settling for the silver in the ladies category.Ndejje university ladies have bagged the gold but their male counterparts have to wait till tomorrow for their destiny.

Nkumba University won the netball gold beating Kampala University 47-44 in a tense final but  the Ggaba-based Kampala university made amends winning both gold medals in handball.

In volleyball its Ugandan rivalry in the ladies final tomorrow where Uganda champions Ndejje university play arch-rivals Nkumba while in the men’s category Nkumba dates Makerere University.

In football, Uganda sides Kampala university and Makerere university business school will contest the football final; Uganda Christian university ladies will play Kampala international university in the ladies final while the men’s final will pit Uganda Christian university against Kenyatta university.

Hockey was won by Moi university.

By news time, the karate that as per events may play a big part in the final rankings was still on. The games climax on Tuesday, 12th February 2013.
