Stephen Kiprotich is Uganda’s biggest athletics figure, no doubt about that.
But crowds in Jinja will miss him when the National Cross-country Championships get under way at Jinja Golf Course on Saturday.
He was in town but he will miss out on the event in order to focus more on the marathon.
“It is my favourite event but i am going to miss it,” he said.
That in turn means he cannot make the team that will travel to Poland for the World Cross-Country Meet.
“I have a tight programme i am following.” he said.
Kiprotich was Uganda’s best finisher – sixth position at the last global edition in Punta Umbria, Spain two years ago. Team Uganda took bronze then in the men’s senior class.
This event will be used to by the Uganda Athletics Federation to select the national team that will represent the country in the World Cross Country Championships due March 24 in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
