Team Nigeria were the first to arrive in Kampala for the ICC Africa T20 Division One World Cup Qualifiers.

Skipper Phillip Adegbola has already tipped the hosts to be the force to reckon but the West Africans are plotting to finish among the top three. They were here in the early hours of Thursday.

“We cannot promise much but we are here to do our best,” Adegbola told Kawowo Sports.

“Our early arrival is because we want to get used to the weather and the ovals here before the tournament starts,” he added.

During the 2011 event, Nigeria finished fourth after winning only three games.

Eight players who were on that team are back and it will be a big boost in pursuit of their ambitions.

The travelling teams is composed of players from five local clubs that play in the Club Cricket Committee League (CCCL) in Nigeria.

This time round, they have Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Botswana to challenge in  quest for a slot at the global World Cup Qualifiers due September in Dubai, UAE. Only the top two sides from this round robin tourney will qualify.

Prior to their arrival, the Nigerians had spent over two weeks in residential camp in Lagos under coach Clive Ogbimi’s watchful eyes.

They had three trial games with a team of Nigerians based in London.
