Come May this year, Uganda will line up a sturdy squadron that will represent the continent in the second edition of the Rollball World Cup in Kuala Lumpur city, Malaysia. Ghana and Kenya are the other African teams to take part
The Pearl of Africa qualified to this competition after a-7-4 massive win over rivals Kenya in the finals of the inaugural Africa Roll Ball Open championship staged at Moi Kasarani stadium in Nairobi earlier this year. Ghana beat Tanzania on third play offs game also to book place.
Two hat tricks from Andrew Ndawula and Ian Kalibala with Ivan Mukwaya adding the seventh were enough to let Uganda lift the title and book a slot for the big event. Although Kenya had a hat trick from Alan Amuma alongside Geoffrey Musa’s strike in their fight to return back, it was not enough to make any changes to the scoreline against the hard fighting Ugandans.
In the preliminary round Kenya beat Uganda 8-7 and beat Kenya “B” 7-1, who also fell 13-1 to the visiting Ugandans
“Yes, Rollball World cup will definitely happen this year. We are just finalizing on the dates although I cannot promise the time frame, I will surely inform you when they are fixed”. Ishan Kamlapurkar, one of the event coordinator said.
Denmark beat hosts India to win the 1st edition in 2011 where Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda from Africa and other 11 teams took part.
