Richar Abril vs Sharif “The Lion” Bogere
Uganda has had some of the finest boxers in the world over the year’s and mind you we have had five world great boxing champions and this Saturday US based Sharif “The Lion” Bogere, will be eyeing to become the country’s sixth world boxing champion.
The undefeated Bogere, will go for the vacant World Boxing Association World lightweight title against Cuban Richard Abril at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
It’s exactly four year’s since Uganda last acclaimed such a feat where Australian based Jackson”Action”Asiku claimed the vacant International Boxing Organization featherweight title in New South Wales,Australia.
Uganda’s past world boxing champions include John “The Beast” Mugabi,Ayub Kalule,Cornelius Boza Edwards the others are Ouma and Asiku.
“It has been long coming and my moment has arrived,” Bogere said recently. “My hard effort in the ring has paid off,but I also must thank my promoters and managers for making me get this chance of getting a world title.”
He will become the second Ugandan fighter to fight under Golden Boy promotions the other being former IBF light middleweight champion Kassim “The Dream” Ouma insistently who by the time had not yet signed up with Oscar De La Hoya’s company.
Bogere, goes into this fight with a record of (23-0,15 KOs) while his Cuban born opponent is (17-3, 8 KOs).
