On Thursday, Moses Kipsiro led an 18-man team Uganda to Polish city of Bydgoszcz for the 40th IAAF World Cross Country Championships due Sunday.

The 2010 Commonwealth gold medallist (5000m and 10000m) left words of hope prior to the flight, indicating he would fight to secure a top position in the senior men’s 12km.

“I have been told its cold there but i will see,” he said.

“If all is well, then i will fight for a medal.”

Kipsiro had a tough time in 2012. He opted out of the Africa Senior Championships before facing a torrid time at the London Olympics two months later.

He returned to the drawing board and concentrated on training in Bukwo and Kween before winning the National Cross-country in Jinja last month.

He is now back in a much better mental state for the medal hunt in Poland.

But all his focus, like many other athletes around the world is on the World Athletics Championships due August in Russia’s capital – Moscow.

Kipsiro carries the biggest burden of raising the country’s flag highest  in Poland after Dorcus Inzikuru dropped out of the travelling contingent.

She failed to get a Visa in time after returning from a race in Tripoli.
