The Uganda National Handball team has flown out to Djibouti for the African Handball Challenge with very high expectations of positive performance at the biannual African meet.
The tournament is due to commence this weekend and will climax on the 12th April, with the winner representing Africa at the Olympic games.
The 14 man squad, being captained by Prisons star, Dominic Akena with Wiiliam Mayanja as head of delegation, left Entebbe International Airport aboard Kenyan Airways, KQ 415 on Friday evening.
Speaking at the team’s flag off ceremony in Entebbe, Sherah Agonzibwe, the Handball Federation President assured the youngsters of the Federation’s blessings and wished them fruitful deliberations in Djibouti.
“I am assuring you, the federation is looking at you with a keen eye. You are the future of handball in Uganda. I wish you the best in Djibouti”, Agonzibwe said.
Uganda is among the 8 African Nations that will vey for the top honours in the week long competitions, which will also double as Africa’s Olympic qualifiers. Other nations are: Kenya, Nigeria, Chad, Senegal, Madagascar, Mozamibque and hosts, Djibouti.
