WBC International light heavyweight Joey Vegas “Owakabi” Lubega, will become the second Ugandan professional boxer to host a world title fight in Uganda on June 1 at Kyadondo rugby club as he takes on Egyptian Hanny “Hurricane”Atiya Ramathan.

“I am looking forward to the fight and I am going to knock out my opponent, but I don’t know which round,” Lubega stated at the launch of his fight at Mount Zion Hotel in Kampala. “I have been longing to defend this belt infront of my fans and they will enjoy this fight.”

In 1997 Justin Juuko, defended his WBC International super featherweight title fight against Ukrainean Volodymyr Matkivskyy at Nakivubo Stadium.

Lubega launched the fight infront of a battery of press men,sponsors and Uganda Professional Boxing Commission officials.

The fight is dubbed the Rwenzori Boxing gala 2013 which will feature three world titles including  Mauy Thai Kickboxing title fight on the night.

Rwenzori Water has sunk 70 million into that fight that is being promoted by Lash Media, who also manages Lubega.

The other support fights will see Sande “Majje Majje” Swico taking on Mohammed Atef of Egypt for the vacant  Africa Boxing Union bantamweight title belt while Thailand based Umar “The Pain” Semata takes on Australian Rhys Karakyriacos for the vacant WBC lightweight Muaythai title belt. 

The event organisers are Events warehouse other sponsors for the title fight include UBC Television, who will give a live feed for the fight others include Mount Zion Hotel, Chui, Ennyanda newspaper, smsempire, OMU Designs.
