Nemo Stars Men Volleyball Club will be missing out in taking part in this year’s National League Opening Ceremony which will take place on April 20 at the MTN Arena.
The current defending champions were supposed to have faced National Champions Sports-S. The Kololo based side, were expected to fly out Tuesday morning to Tripoli for their first appearance in a continental championship. Sport-S Volleyball club will now be taking on 2011 champions Nkumba University that will be this Saturday.
In the Women’s Category defending and National Champions Ndejje who are currently fresh from Madagascar, will be facing Kampala Amateur Volleyball club in their league opener. The fans will actually be eager to watch the new skills from the continental representatives.
It has also been confirmed that there will be a new series created for the National League after six new teams confirmed participation in this year’s league.
According to the sports organising commission Sky Destiny, Namboole, Gombe SS and Muteesa I Royal University have confirmed entry which warrants the creation of a new series C.
Meanwhile, Kumi Volleyball club have also confirmed their return to Serie B to make it ten teams after the exit of KCC stars team.
“Am visibly happy,” Uganda Volleyball Federation Chairman Sadick Nasiwu intimated. He also added that he expected more teams to come on board next season after Elgon Volleyball club from Mbale, Lira Volleyball Club from Lira and Mbarara Volleyball club from Mbarara actually promised to make entries next year.
The National league has now grown from 34 teams last season to 38 teams this season 2013. In addition to that Mbale based Elgon Volleyball club has been confirmed as hosts to the National Clubs Open this year slated for September.
Apart from Nemo Stars missing out on the league opener, Mulago Paramedics Volleyball club will be missing this year’s National Volleyball League that is to start this weekend due to their failure to submit registration forms.
Due to financial constraints as they explained, the women and men’s teams are to miss out on these championships.
