Golola Moses can finally afford a smile after beating Hungarian Istavan Betyar in a non-title fight held at Kyadondo Rugby grounds on Friday night.
Having suffered defeats to Hungarians Szamboki and Nagy in his previous bouts, Golola spent weeks of privately organised intensive training Nairobi in order to re-invent himself and indeed he did though in a manner that left many of his fans believing that the fight was fixed for Golola to win as it appeared stage managed from the time it kicked off.
Golola took to the ring at around 1.00 am after a series of under card fights amidst cheers from his fans accompanied by Musician Dr. Hilder Man, kick boxer Ronald Mugula and a group of bouncers.
Few minutes later, the fight dubbed “The Return of Golola Moses” got underway but there were no kicks or punches to write about at the end of the first round as both fighters appeared like they were not ready to fight.
The same cat and mouse tricks were to be seen again in the second, third and fourth round and it only opened up in the fifth round when Golola tried to throw some feeble kicks at Istavan.
To the disappointment of many fans, the fight ended without the crowd noticing but the only point of note was that Golola appeared to have improved his footwork and kicks but nothing else to show.
In the end, Golola won by judges’ unanimous decision as all the three read out (50-48 50-45 50-46) in favour of the red corner to which he belonged.
