Fifty five million shillings has been sunk into this year’s Bamburi Rugby Super Series Uganda chapter by Hima Cement ahead of the tournament that kicks-off on May 4 in Kampala.
The package was unveiled at a brief ceremony at Kyadondo rugby club this morning by the Domestic Sales manager, Hima Cement, Ken Lubega and Andrew Owor, the chairman, Uganda Rugby Super Series.
The eight-team tournament will kicck off on May 4, 2013. Kenya will be represented by six teams while Uganda will have two- Rwenzori and Victoria.
The Kenya franchise teams have been reconstituted and renamed, with all six Kenyan sides adopting Swahili names as follows: Nyumbu(Impala, Quins, Nondies), Papa( Mwamba, KCB, Homeboyz), Ndovu (Nakuru, Egerton, Moi, Kitale, Eldoret), Kengewa(Universities), Kiboko(Kisumu, Kakamega), Mamba(Coast).
Last year’s runners-up, Rwenzori will battle for a semi-final spot with Kenya’s Ndovu, Kengewa and Mamba. Women’s teams will play curtain-raising matches.
Last year UAP Rhinos from Kenya beat Rwenzori. This year’s winner will walk away with 1 million Kenyan shillings(sh29.5m).
