Grand Opening for 2013 National Open Pool Championships
The Pool Association of Uganda (PAU) has received a huge boost of Ug. Sh 1.71 billion ahead of the 5th Edition for the National Open Pool Championships that are scheduled to commence on the 24th May 2013 with a grand opening at Rock Catalina in Nakawa.
The eventual winner will smile home with a brand new car (progress) while all the former winners will each receive branded jackets and the regional winners from the 60 playing centers will get medals.
“As a champion brand, we are committed to looking for the champions in all sports disciplines, that’s why we were attracted to partner with the Pool Association. We are looking for a hard working champion out there who plays by rules while upholding the virtues of fair play”, said Timothy Kayondo, the Nile Special Brand Manager, during the cheque handing over ceremony at Speke Hotel Kampala on Thursday.
Farouk Wamala Kisuze, the Pool Association president expressed his delight about the handsome 3 year partnership with Nile special and he pledged a better organised championship.
“Unlike the previous editions, the 2013 edition will be in its own class and i promise maximum accountability of each and every penny from the sponsors”, a smiling Kisuze told Kawowo Sports Media shortly after the cheque presentation event.
At the same event, 2012 National Open Pool Championship winner, Alfred Gumisiriza a.k.a Black Sheep was officially unveiled as the new face of championships and special posters have been printed with his image.
“Defending the championship has never been easy, but i will strive to achieve the feat”, Black Sheep, who turns out for National Champions, Skin Samona said.
Two players will qualify for the final from each of the 60 playing centers. These will be joined by the eight seeded players bringing the the total number of players at the grand finale to 128. Approximately 2500 players are expected to take part in this nationwide tournament.
