The battle for the coveted 2013 National Pool Nile Special Toyota progress and 2M overall prize continues this weekend with the Northern Uganda regional qualifiers.
Nebbi and Arua will kick-off on Friday at Pavillion Cinq and Satelite Pub One respectively before the championship goes to Kitgum at Acholi Pub and Lira at Hawai Sport on Saturday. Gulu will conclude the Northern leg at Amigos on Sunday.
Some of the stars expected to take part in the Northern pool championship include Emmanuel Chool and Hakim Taban who represented Arua at the 2012 Nile Special Pool grande finale. Emmanuel Ociti who reigned in Gulu last year, together with the losing finalist Walter Odoki, is also expected to return.
Lira’s best last year Jimmy Okello and Silver Obua together with Nebbi’s Albert Komaketch and Geoffrey Emitto are also expected to start ttheir journey back to the grand finale, slated for Saturday, 31 August, 2013 at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.
“The Northern has always produced good players such as Emmanuel Chool from and Ociti from Gulu. But they are not going to simply sail to the final. We expect even stiffer competition in the region especially with a Car at stake for the grand finale winner,” said tournament secretary Robert Kayanja.
Two players will qualify for the final from each of the 60 playing centers. These will be joined by the eight seeded players bringing the the total number of players at the grand finale to 128. Approximately 2500 players are expected to take part in this nationwide tournament.
The championships’ qualifiers kicked off last week in Kampala at various playing centers that witnessed Kabalagala’s Onen Richard and Awori David aka Musota qualify on Friday before Serwanja Joseph aka Stundent and Lukyamuzi Nicklas made it from the Kasanga pool joint.
