Uganda and Kenya have over the years been great neighbors. Many sporting battles have been won and lost between the two sister nations. Truth though, none comes any bigger, thrilling and adrenaline moving than the Rugby Elgon Cup. The 2013 finale at Kyadondo this weekend presents yet another platform for the 2 perennial arch rival nations to show case the better prepared and superior.

Home team, Uganda carries a slight advantage going into this fixture having won away at Moi International Center Kasarani in Nairobi last weekend. But the Cranes’ Head coach Peter Magona calls the battle far from finished.

“I want the boys to finish the task at Kyadondo, it is far from a ceremonial affair.”, Magona warns his troops. Magona has expressed satisfaction with the national team latest capped players, Paul Serunjogi and Jasper Ochan. “The two new caps did what was asked of them even if Paul Serunjogi didn’t get much time on pitch, but Jasper Ochan did well particularly in the cross cover defense,” said Magona.

But that is as far as the former Rugby Cranes captain went in revealing his probable line up when asked about any possible returnees or additions to the national fold, “We are still planning the team and until I’ve told the squad, I can’t let it out but suffice to say we are happy with the way most of the team played in Kenya.”

“The tie is finely poised at half time and is still anyone’s game. I must remind you that Kenya have won more times in Uganda than we have won in Kenya. So to think it’s a foregone conclusion couldn’t be farther off the mark. It’s still anyone’s game and we need Ugandans to get behind the Rugby Cranes.”

The Cranes will pray that the three players Ronald Adigas, Michael Wokocrach and Bishop Onen pass late fitness tests having picked up knocks.

Uganda takes a slim but crucial one-point advantage into the game following a 17-16 win in Kenya and look forward to a second Elgon cup in a row having won the 2012 version 19-17 on aggregate. On the other hand, the rugby lady Cranes have to overturn a one point deficit in the game having fallen 17-18 to Kenya in the first leg.
