As the competition for qualifying slots in the Nile Special open Pool championships intensify, many Kampala pool players are running away from the competitive Kampala region and have sought refugee in the rural areas where they think it will be easy for them to compete, Kawowo sports media reliably confirms. Focus this weekend shifts to the mid west region of Kiboga, Hoima, Fort Portal and Kasese.

The new playing center Club Steers in Kiboga will be the major battleground during the Nile Special pool championship qualification round in Mid-West over the weekend. This was the observation of the Pool Association publicist Michael Mawanda when his opinion was sought on the weekend battles for the champion of the cue.

“I expect a couple of Kampala based players to go to Kiboga and qualify from there because it is a new playing center. This is because Kampala has a lot of good players and they all naturally tend to look for the soft centers where they stand higher chances of qualification and Kiboga may be that venue. It is new and nothing is known about it,” noted Mawanda.

But speaking about the region as a whole, Mawanda singled out a couple of players that he expects to make it to the grand finale due Saturday, 31 August at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.

“Mid-West has been dominated by a small group of players such as Primrock Abitegeka, who is a two time qualifier for the national finals. Adam Sadam is another experienced player that is expected to come through barring any major upset. He is a three-time winner in Hoima,” said Mawanda.

Adding that; “The other player to look out for in Mid-West is Fortportal’s John Kasuku a two time qualifier for the national grand finale. He is a seven-year veteran, who plies his trade with Perfection pool club which is still the only undefeated club in the national league.”

Both finalists from each of the 60 playing centers country-wide qualify for the grand finale. They will be joined by the eight seeded players bringing the total number of participants at the grand finale to 128. Approximately 2500 players are expected to take part in the nationwide tournament.

At stake for the playing center winners is a medal, UGX 100, 000 and a shoot at the overall winner’s prizes that include a jacket, a car, one pool table, UGX2M and an opportunity of being the Nile Special Pool brand ambassador for a year. The first runner-up will earn UGX 1.5M and a pool table.
