29th June, this Saturday will mark this year’s handball day celebrations. The annually organised event is going to take place at Lubiri Secondary School, where the Handball Day Tournament competitions will also unfold. The theme of the tournament is ‘handball through the years.’

In the Men’s category, UPDF are set to battle strong contenders, Prisons, Police and Evergreen in a move to defend their title despite their loss to Spears in their last Super league encounter.

In the women’s category, Nkumba University’s appearance is in doubt since the university broke off for holidays. However if they make it, they will face a stiff resistance from last year’s champions – Prisons Lady Spears.

Secondary schools will also join the struggle where East African School Champions Lubiri S.S and National schools champions Kibibi S.S look forward to renewing their rivalry ahead of their preparations for nationals this year.

More resistance is also expected from fast improving Gombe S.S, On-form Mbogo High School, Midland High School, Dynamic S.S, Kakungulu Memorial, Old Kampala S.S, Namagbi S.S, Buddo S.S and St.Henry’s College Kitovu.

This particular tournament will give the National U20 team coaches a platform to select the National U20 and U17 teams for Girls Olympic Qualifiers due August in Congo Brazzaville as well as the National team, as Uganda prepares to take part in the Zone V Nations Championship due september in Dar-es-Salaam.
