Ex-Cranes Coach Bobby Williamson was on Tuesday 10th unveiled at Tusker Premier League side Gor Mahia as new Coach replacing sacked Zdravko Logarusic.
The Scot who signed a one year contract with the 1995 league champions got his appointment on Friday last week beating five other applicants who included former SC Victoria University Coach Ivan Zoric but officially started the job today (Tuesday).
In his first press conference, Williamson acknowledged the challenge ahead but expects full support from all stakeholders at the club. Nevertheless, he was hesitant to promise trophies but lead the club in the right path.
“I can’t promise anything at the moment. My biggest target is to lead the club in the right direction. Winning trophies is any club’s target but I won’t guarantee any in my reign”, Bobby said.
“I will be working with players in the next coming weeks to get the best out of them. I have had an opportunity to watch the team though my focus was mainly on Ugandan internationals and more so Dan Sserunkuma. I must say, I was impressed by the team performance”, Bobby added.
“Gor Mahia has passionate, encouraging and vocal fans. It’s one of the factors that made me join the club. There could not be any better welcoming”, he concluded.
Williamson’s first task will come in the league against Chemelil Sugar at Nyao Stadium on July 17.
The 50 year old Scot was sacked from the Cranes top job by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) in April after failing to steer Uganda to the Africa Nations Cup finals but is highly rated in the region after winning four Cecafa Tusker Challenge trophies in his five year tenure with the Cranes.
