A1 Challenge 45-31 KIU Rangers Eagles 55-78 Vegetarian
Vegetarians completed their first round schedule on Wednesday night. They couldn’t have concluded it any better. Vegetarians came from down to beat Eagles for their first win of the season at YMCA.
“It’s a good team win, they should enjoy it. For me, we are still working. We are going to have two or so weeks of working. We still have to make a few clean ups” Vegetarians’ coach, Simon Otiine told Kawowo Sports.
Trailing by 3 going into the third quarter, Vegetarian (1-10) rallied to take the lead, pushed it into double figures with 4:14 and never looked back. Mark Ongom scored game high 17 points off the bench to lead Vegetarian. “We have been working on our offense a lot but when you have a hot hand you take it” Ongom said
Three other vegetarians reached double figures. Micheal Oling scored 14 points, John Otto added 11 points and Bernard Okumu contributed 11 points & 12 boards.
Ivan Mago scored 15 points to lead eagles (1-10), Ronald Bukenya added 12 and Frank Karoro contributed 11 points
Vegetarian attempted a season high 65 field goals (only five of those from beyond the arc) while shooting at 46.2 %. “We have been working on attacking the basket more and we did that a lot today” Otiine said.
In the women’s division, A1 Challenge used a big fourth quarter to pin a 45-31 loss to KIU Rangers. Vickie Ntale scored 10 of her 16 points in the final frame and Liz Bazira added 7 of her game high 19 points in the period as A1 got a third successive win. “We are getting there slowly taking one game at a time” Ntale said. Challenge (5-6) is now 1-1 versus KIU.
Center, Suzan Amito led Rangers (6-4) with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Moreen Atulinda and Judith Nansobya contributed 6 points apiece. Nansobya had a poor evening. The shooting guard went 2-for-14 from the field and 1-of-4 on the line.
