KCCA Leopards Vs UCU Lady Canons 6:30 PM
Riham Warriors Vs Dmark Power 8:30 PM
When Isaac Afidra was called to act, the response was spot-on. The power forward pounded UCU Canons inside-out to lead Dmark Power to a tenth consecutive win. The 2011 MVP will be called into similar action when Power (10-0) face defending champions, Riham Warriors this evening at the MTN Arena in Lugogo.
Warriors (7-2) edged Falcons 66-62 two weeks ago behind a big performance from Ronnie Kasewu. Warriors enter the game without a win against a team that ranks above them having lost to City Oilers and UCU.
With the way Power’s offense is rolling, Warriors have to rely a lot on the defensive end before even considering out scoring their opponents and their skipper is well aware of the threat. “We know they are good offensively and we are going to approach this game defensively” Jude Ochen said
The two giants that share the recent history split last year’s match ups. Ben Komakech who has had a quiet season so far scored 19 points when Power beat Warriors 71-63 in the first match up. Henry Malinga and Ronnie Kasewu (who are also currently the top performers) led Warriors to the 75-56 win in the second round.
UCU Lady Canons will face KCCA Leopards in the woman’s division. The division heavy weights are yet to drop a game with Lady Canons having played a game less.
Leopards came from two down to win last year’s finals and the addition of Claire Lamunu has made the defending champions even better. The forward is one of the league leaders averaging 16 points and 7.7 rebounds. Lamunu has taken over the scoring burden from Martha Soigi who hasn’t featured for KCCA in the last three since the game against Magic Stormers on June 6.
The Lady Canons meanwhile have two of the league’s top 5 scorers in Purity Adhiambo (16.1 ppg & 9.2 rpg)and Moreen Amoding (13 ppg). They were without front court pillars, Lauren Akiny and Peace Proscovia in the 79-49 win over Magic Stormers and still out.
Leopards are averaging 74.1 points per game while limiting their opponents to 33.2. Lady Canons on the other hand are averaging 81.4 points per game while letting in 38.3. Both teams have conceded the highest number of points against A1 Challenge.
