The long awaited D-moment for Uganda Cranes defender, Ivan Bukenya comes this Thursday as he is expected to embark on trials at South African football giants, Kaizer Chiefs.

Bukenya is expected to set foot in the South African city of Nelspriut, where the Amakhosi are having a training camp. The development means that the 21-year-old centre-back could start could be a replacement for Ghanaian defender Anthony Manison, who has been on trial since last Tuesday at the Premier Soccer League 2012/13 champions.

Bukenya, who currently plies his trade  for the Iraq Premier League for Arbil FC will be a timely acquisition to the team. His 6 feet plus structure, good game reading and composure on the ball is a bonus to the contemporary nature of modern football.

He once played for the Buganda Masaza outfit, Mawogola in 2008, in the same side as Sula Malouda Matovu (teammate at Erbil), Robert Odongkara (goalie at St George in Ethiopia), Emma Okwi (In Tunisia), Godfrey ‘Jjajja Walu’ Walusimbi (Don Bosco), Ali Feni (URA), Patrick Edema (on trials in Portugal), Erukana Nkugwa (URA), Yusuf Mukisa (Pro-line) among others.

Once Bukenya passes the trials, he is set to wear the famous the black and gold jersey, won in the past by former national team captain super , Nei’Mokoko’ Tovey, now a football commentator on pay Television channel, Super Sport , Lucas ‘Rhoo’ Radebe , Patrick ‘Ace’ Nstsoelenegoe and Doctor  ’16V’ Khumalo.
