Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces (UPDF) have left for East African Community Military Games in high spirits, desperate to leave a mark at the games.
After a 2 week’s intensive training schedule for the Football, Handball, Basketball, Athletics and Netball teams, UPDF feels ready for the games.
The Handball team conducted 2 friendly games against Prisons, winning one by a narrow 16-15 margin and drawing the other 30 all while the basketball outfit, that plays in the Airtel National Division Three league, put up a spirited fight in their 80-82 loss against league power house, D mark Power.
“We expect to put up a gallant showing at the Nairobi Military games”, vows, Augustine Mugalu, who plays Handball for Uganda’s peace keepers.
UPDF now awaits to face opponents from Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi in the East African Community military games that will be held in Nairobi from 5th – 17th August 2013.
The team was officially flagged off at Mbuya Military Barracks, a suburb off the Kampala City.
