Uganda Wheelchair Basketball Association is expecting financial support from Germany to improve the game in all parts of the country. “Now that we have German support, referees and coaches,we hope that we shall be able to run tournaments with our own,as well as run the national league”said Dennis Akena,President Uganda Wheelchair basketball Association.
Fortunately, the association recieved material after the completion of the clinic that attracted over 40 disabled athletes from central, northern, western and eastern regions last weekend.
The workshop was the second in a series that begun last year in Gulu district. “I have done my best to cover each need,so far everybody has got the techniques, although they need more experience” Horst Frantzens, the German Clinic instructor said.
Wheelchair basketball was initiated in 2007 in Gulu for the war affected people and the growing youth.
Uganda will form one team that will participate in the Paralympic games, with continental qualifiers where they will have to perform at their best.
