World and Olympic champion Stephen Kiprotich will meet the Ugandan president, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday 23rd August. Following his triumph at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, the marathon star who hails from Kapchorwa in eastern Uganda got a hero’s reception on return to Uganda.
Just as it was 12 months ago, Kiprotich made history last weekend, becoming the second man in history to win Olympic and world accolades together after overcoming an Ethiopian challenger to power victory in majestic fashion. “The president will be meeting him and other athletes on Friday, 23rd of this month and I don’t want to engage in any token appreciation now, I would like the president to be the one,” said Hon. Amama Mbabazi, the Ugandan Prime Minister who had received the athlete on behalf of the President.
Stephen Kiprotich’s life has changed since the 2012 London Olympic games. He will soon usher his parents, James Kiptui and Kopkop Cheptum to a new three bedroom house, a pledge from Museveni to Kiprotich’s parents.
