The latest feats have proved Ugandan runners will no longer be overlooked in the numerous long-distance events.
Right from Stephen Kiprotich’s marathon gold triumphs at the London Olympics and lately the Moscow World Athletics Championships, the list of champions over distant running has continued to grow.
On Sunday, four other male athletes dominated proceedings as Uganda scored 10 points to win the senior men’s class at the 29th edition of World Mountain Running Championship in Poland.
The quartet of Phillip Kiplimo, Geoffrey Kusuro, Nathan Ayeko and Peter Kibet took the top positions in that order after strong internal competition over the 13km.
Kiplimo took gold after clocking 54:22 while Kusuro (55:06) and Ayeko (55:19) settled for silver and bronze.
Kibet clocked 55:27 as Uganda emerged overall world champions followed by Italy and Tunisia in the city of in Krynica-Zdroj.
Last year in Val Camonica in the Italian Alps, Micheal Cherop clocked 42:33 to beat 16 other competitors enroute to winning gold in the junior men’s 8.8km race.
