Falcons 83-80 City Oilers

Falcons snapped a three game skid. Steven Omony made sure of that on his return after missing the previous couple of games.

Omony scored team high 25 points including a pair of free throws with 2 seconds as Falcons edged City Oilers 83-80 on Friday night at YMCA. Peter Elungant added 19 points.

“We can’t get excited about the win but it is a boost for us. Am glad for win and the team” Omony said. “It is a transition to get where we were but it is not easy” he added.

With the score tied at 73 with 4:10 in the fourth quarter, Falcons (8-8) put together a 6-0 run but Jimmy Enabu cut Falcons’ lead to 2 with a pair of lay-ups before picking up his fifth foul to send Philip Ameny (17 points & 8 rebounds) to line with 56 seconds to final buzzer. Falcons’ big man hit both throws to increase lead to 81-77.
Three foul shots from Kami (1) and Rurangirwa (2) brought Oilers with-in 80-81. Omony then sealed the game for Falcons as Yusuf Mohamed’s game-tying buzzer beater from his own half drew steel.

“We didn’t excute when we should have and just lost a game we should have won. We don’t come to play games expecting to lose” City Oilers’ guard Jimmy Enabu said.

Falcons who have had a rough season as nearly assured of the playoffs. “I think we need two or three wins and we are there.” Falcons coach, Gad Eteu said. “We have had a month of practice together and guys are getting better. Results will eventually start to come and get where we belong” he added

Kami Kabangu poured in game high 32 points and picked 10 rebounds in a losing effort.

In the women’s division, KIU Rangers got a big and an important win to their play off push against Magic Stormers. Rangers beat Stormers 71-53.

Florence Nanyonga scored game high 23 points and grabbed 19 rebounds to pace Rangers. Ruth nakitto added 15 points and Aisha Nakabubi who stepped in at 2 for the injured Judith Nansobya contributed 11 points.

Sylvia Kawesa scored 13 points for Stormers off the bench.
