At the start of this month, about a couple of weeks to the first leg, Top Fry Nakuru RFC’s Captain Edwin Makori strongly warned that it would not be any close to easy, for MTN Heathens, the current Uganda rugby league champions facing the Kenyan champions in their own backyard. He also added that a win at home (Kenya) would boost their confidence for a more polite execution in the return leg scheduled for 19th October at Kyadondo Rugby Club.

Several days later, Heathen Captain Alex Mubiru has also replied ahead of the first leg this Saturday, 12th October at Nakuru, Kenya saying Heathens are also prepared for this historic competition and confident of winning the title.

“We just need to win and I think it will be a proper boost to Ugandan rugby. Earlier we got a win away in Nairobi, in the Elgon Cup and I think this is going to be a good one for rugby lovers in Uganda,” Mubiru told Urban Tv.

Reportedly, Heathen’s skipper Micheal Wokorach also joined his captain maintaining Heathen’s slogan of one game at a time. “We choose to focus our energy and conservation on pitch and we are set to represent the entire nation with our best shot,” Micheal charged as they prepare to leave for Kenya, this Thursday, 10th October.

Although the East African Rugby Super cup is a new entrant to rugby calendar, teams have begun feeling the pressure to put up their best. It is later expected to become more competitive and exciting since Edward Ochieng, the organiser assured Kawowo Sports that Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania would debut next year. Focus remains on Uganda and Kenya now, as plans are being finalised to bring other East African countries on board. The champion for this edition will earn 8 million Uganda Shillings while the runner up will walk away with 2 million Uganda Shillings.
