North Africans, Egypt have had an easy ride with a 3-0 sweet victory over Tanzania in the group Q of the women’s FIVB World Championships qualifier match played at the MTN indoor Stadium, Lugogo in the Ugandan Capital of Kampala.
It took coach Mohamed Hesham Badrawy’s girls just 21 minutes to claim the first set with a 25 – 10 scoreline margin where power attacker Aya El Shamy took the majority points.
The trend was replicated in the second set that lasted 22 minutes. This time round, Tanzania bettered the set score with 16 but still ended up on the losing side 25-16.
Come the last set, Tanzania improved and nearly claimed the set but inexperience at the big stage cost them dearest. They led almost the entire set with a margin of at least two points until they collapsed at the death, Egypt winning 26-24.
“I am prepared for the last game against Uganda. We surely need to qualify”, remarked Egypt Tactician, Hesham Badraw after the victory.
Egypt plays Uganda in the last game of the tourney while Kenya takes on Tanzania. Only two nations will qualify for the next round of qualifiers for the continental meet.
