Even since winning her maiden lifetime golf accolade with the 2012 Monthly mug victory at the par 71 Entebbe Golf course, Maureen Okurra has never set back.
For one player who has consistently graduated to handicap 28, Okura, a hard hitter of the ball envisages light in her budding but promising golf career.
” I started on handicap 36, on which i managed to win a mug. That gave me the zeal to push on and on upto the overall female winner of the usually competitive JBG in 2013″, Okura opens up to Kawowo Sports with a beaming grin across her face.
The 22 year old graduate of Social Sciences took a sabbatical leave off the game for close to 7 months since her 2011 debut in the 14th JBG. On resumption, she won the Forbes Monthy mug in September (2011), 2012 Captain’s group B winner, same as of the Entebbe Open before bouncing back in style with a runner’s up slot in the 2013 Captain’s Cup and her recent glory of the Overrall winner for the 16th JBG Golf Tourney.
“It takes passion and dedication to play the game of golf, so i have to give golf more hours to improve my handicap by the close of the year to become a better player”, she says.
For now, Okura looks upon the up-coming Entebbe Golf Open on 16th November to cap a what she terms relatively a memorable year.
