Current title contenders UPDF pushed through the handball weekend victorious after what seemed to be a marginal upset for Prison Spears. A bright sunny day it started, but later muddy, although, the rain did little to interrupt the game.
UPDF secured the lead from the start of the battle as they scored 6 goals before going one man down, after their key player Sulaiman Kisugulu was sent off for a tough challenge.
From then on, UPDF looked vulnerable as prison spears took advantage of the game, scoring four unanswered goals. However, UPDF continued with their struggle, stretching their lead to 8 goals before the half time whistle.
There wasn’t any major change in the second half of the game, as the army side took full control of the game once again, putting the lead to 10 goals.
Luckily, prison spears had a reason for relief as they rapidly reduced the goal margin to four followed by three other last minute goals but unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to beat the army side as the game ended UPDF 33 Prisons 21.
UPDF’s weekend victory steered them to second place with a slim two point difference from league leaders, Prison Spears. UPDF now anxiously wait for their next game against Arrows next weekend, as Ndejje University Scorpions also take on Prison Spears.
