Twenty one year old half marathoner Thomas Ayeko, completed a great two months for Ugandan athletics when he was choosen the Nile Special Sportsman of the Month of October, by Uganda Sports Press Association members at their monthly meeting held at Lugogo tennis club this morning.

His triumph comes just a month after the very sports scribes body choose voted Uganda’s athletics team won the World Mountain Running Championships in Krynica Zdroj, Poland in September.

Ayeko, winner of the Bupa Great Birmingham Run on October 20 in England beat three candidates bagging 315 votes against National Rally Championship winner Jas Mangat and Uganda Ladies National Volleyball team who both got 265 points while Mawokota winners of the Masaza Cup was fourth with 160 votes.

Ayeko, enroute to winning the Bupa Great Birmingham Run he beat 2008 World Indoor 3000 meters champion and 2012 Olympics games 10,000 meters bronze medallist Tariku Bekele from Ethiopia he also become the only athlete to run below 63 minutes. 

The sports scribe body commended Uganda top badminton seeds Wilson Tukire (men’s singles) and Shamim Bangi (women)  who won the City Tyres Tamizh Sangam Badminton Challenge crowns.

Together with Timothy Okwi, who won the Entebbe Club JBG golf tournament in October and National top squash player Michael Kawooya, for winning the Nakuru Open Squash Championship.
