Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) women’s coach Hannington Nsubuga has described his team’s National Volleyball League Game Two against holders Ndejje Elites as ‘the biggest challenge’ this year. KAVC go into today’s fixture desperate to level the series after Ndejje took a 1-0 lead with a convincing 3-0 win last weekend.
“It’s a tough match for us,” Nsubuga said yesterday. “It will either bring us back to life, or continue to make life hard for us,” added Nsubuga. KAVC have only managed one win against Ndejje this year.
Then KAVC had to come from two sets down and win the league opener 3-2. Nsuguba’s captain Vivian Adeke is positive that her side can replicate the form that saw them, come from a game down to defeat Nkumba University 2-1.
“We badly want to win, if they can transfer our semifinal form to today’s match am sure, we can bounce back,” Adeke said. Against Nkumba, KAVC came with a strategy of stopping Eunice Amuron and Astreede Agaaba which worked wonders.
In Game One, KAVC were exposed on the block yet it is one of their strongest departments, and was (block) crucial in seeing off Nkumba.
Centre blockers Irene Adeke and Rachael Mugabi will be required to step up.
Ndejje’s tactician Johnson Kawenyera is putting much emphasis on making sure his side keeps clam heads going into today’s game. “Game Two is just like Game One, total concentration is what I have been preaching to the girls,” Kawenyera said.
As usual Ndejje will rely on Saidat Nnungi’s and Maureen Mwamula’s explosive attacks in the middle and power respectively. The Ndejje-KAVC match-up is a repeat of last year’s final, though Ndejje came out on top 3-0 then, all three game had to be decided on a tie breaker.
