Week five of the Nile Special Rugby Super 8 Premiership closed out in spectacular style over the weekend, MTN Heathens and Dmark Kobs both garnering ‘away’ victories against counterparts Toyota Buffaloes at Kyadondo and Ezee Money Rhinos at Legends respectively.

It was a very captivating weekend as the top four renewed their rivalry in dire desperateness to remain unbeaten for a fifth consecutive game.

However much MTN Heathens fans had a vivid memory of last season’s league cup final 20-6 drubbing of Toyota Buffaloes, Saturday must have presented a whole new experience.

Heathens captain Micheal Wokorach returning from a fearsome neck injury alongside colleague Benon Kizza barely depicted a ‘dog and pony show’ but rather a ‘battle of nerves’.

First half saw MTN Heathens take the lead 18-0 thanks to Benon Kizza’s notable penalty and Allan Otim’s 60 meter try.

Kevin Mukasa Keremundu just like the previous weekend ushered Toyota Buffaloes into a point chase mood, making a good penalty kick before team-mate Phillip Pariyo missed another.

Buffaloes finally gained momentum and focus towards the end of the first half as Heathens were left to only appreciate Raymond Sembajjwe’s interception, Kevin Keremundu effortlessly beating their back line.

Buffaloes missed their fourth penalty into the final half as Heathens Asuman Mugerwa scored another try extending the score to 25-3.

Unfortunately, Mathias Ochwo and Captain Micheal Wokorach were sent to the sin bin for infringement at ruck leaving a 13-man MTN Heathens.

Immediately, every aspect of the game turned against the ‘visitors’ Heathens. Buffaloes bossed the game to the last minute even after Ochwo and Captain Wokorach’s return.

Phillip Pariyo had a moment of his weekend scoring two tries.Buffaloes Robert Masendi made a good conversion before missing a ‘heartbreaking’ 40 meter drop kick, conversion and penalty which could have clinched a historic victory against their opponents.

Charles Uhuru who was later crowned Nile Special man of the match scored the last try for Buffaloes as they registered their first loss this season. Full time score, Toyota Buffaloes 22 MTN Heathens 25.

In the other games played elsewhere, Ezee Money Rhinos also registered their first loss this season losing to unbeaten DMark Kobs 3-20 at Legends, Nile Special man of the match Oscar Kalyango of DMark Kobs having a game worth to remember.

G4S Pirates thrashed Lira Bulls 35-0 in Lira, Pirates emerging victorious for the first time this season.

Mutoni Warriors edged Sadolin Mongers 10-8 at Legends, Warriors also breaking the always-beaten curse.
