The tennis fraternity and tennis officials in the country have been urged to help Uganda’s two top tennis players David Oringa and Duncan Mugabe, reclaim their status in the world tennis rankings.

“You all know that I took alot of effort to push Duncan Mugabe into the top 500 in the world and now am urging you to help him and David Oringa get into the top 500 in the once again,” Cedric Babu, the Uganda Tennis Association president said at the award ceremony of the Ladder Top 8 tournament at Center Court Sports Club, Lugogo last Saturday. “I would like to see Mugabe running hard and we helping him and Oringa get the necessary assistance they need to attain those goals.”

David Oringa is currently ranked 1,672 on the Association of Tennis Professionals ranking with his highest ranking being 1,494 while Mugabe was last rated by the professional tennis ranking body at 659 in 2009 where he also collected a combined $8.328(Sh20.5m) in prize money.

This year Mugabe, won a treble at the prestigious Kenya Open tennis championship sweeping the men’s singles title, men’s doubles with Oringa and claiming the mixed doubles.

While Oringa, lost to Rwanda’s top tennis player Jean Claude Gasigwa at the ITF/CAT Rwanda Money Circuit.
